HHM Talent is assisting a client who is searching for a Cost Accountant in Chattanooga, TN.Position OverviewOur client is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to accurately track construction and development costs while serving as a key liaison between the Accounting and Construction Operations teams. This position requires someone who is comfortable working in both an office and active job-site environment.The ideal candidate is confident, assertive, and able to work directly with project managers and operations employees to ensure costs are accurately documented and assigned.ResponsibilitiesWork closely with project managers to ensure expenses and labor costs are charged to the correct jobsTrack construction costs for roads, utilities, amenities, and other development projectsSet up new jobs and maintain accurate job-costing informationPartner with the payroll team to allocate labor costs accuratelyManage employee PTO processing and track PTO availabilityPrepare job-costing and construction reports for month-end closeComplete quarry month-end reportingAssist with bank and balance sheet reconciliationsWork with the Accounting team to properly allocate internal costsConduct and facilitate physical inventories of quarry rock, seed, stone, and other materialsAssist with drone-based inventory estimatesPrepare cost estimates and other ad hoc reports for construction projectsPrepare billing for construction work performed for third partiesStrengthen communication between Construction Operations and AccountingWork directly with operations employees to improve processes and maintain accurate financial informationAssist with additional accounting and operational projects as neededQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting required3–5 years of relevant accounting experienceConstruction accounting or job-costing experience highly preferredQuickBooks experience requiredProficiency in Microsoft ExcelExperience with Bill.com, QuickBooks Desktop, and ExakTime preferredExperience with inventory accounting and balance sheet reconciliations preferredStrong communication, organization, and problem-solving skillsConfident and assertive, with the ability to hold others accountable and provide clear directionComfortable working with both accounting professionals and field-based operations teamsWillingness to spend time at active construction and job sitesCompensation & BenefitsCompensation: $75,000–$90,000Bonus opportunity: Annual Christmas bonusSchedule: Hybrid, with three days in the office, one day at the job site, and one day working remotelyGrowth OpportunityThis position offers a path toward increased management responsibility over the next three to five years.
