Cathodic Protection / Corrosion Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cathodic Protection / Corrosion Engineer to support project design, field testing, construction verification, commissioning, and corrosion-related quality reviews. The ideal candidate will have strong cathodic protection field and design experience, along with knowledge of corrosion, CUI, and NDE techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project designs, specify requirements, and verify that required cathodic protection features are included in the design.
- Create sketches and drawings for rectifiers, anodes, test stations, and other cathodic protection features for new and existing facilities.
- Coordinate with the Major Projects Group and internal department projects.
- Attend project meetings to provide updates, technical input, and support with questions or issues.
- Conduct site visits and verify project requirements during:
- Pre-construction/design
- Construction
- Final walkdowns
- Perform field testing for design and verification purposes, including:
- Soil potential testing
- Soil resistivity testing
- Existing cathodic protection facility testing
- Close interval surveys
- Coordinate with cathodic protection commissioning contractors, answer technical questions, and assist with troubleshooting.
- Analyze commissioning contractor data, identify abnormalities, and follow up as needed.
- Maintain field test equipment, ensure it remains in good working condition, and perform minor repairs when required.
- Assist with pipeline commissioning activities as approved by the project leader, including moisture and odorant monitoring.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, P&IDs, drawings, project packages, schedules, and other written or diagram-based instructions.
- Perform arithmetic calculations, apply basic mathematical concepts, solve practical problems, and work with situations involving limited standardization.
- Pre-review project deliverables to ensure corrosion processes and principles are aligned with client standards and industry best practices.
- Manage multiple tasks and project responsibilities while maintaining effective communication with project teams.
Required Qualifications
- NACE/AMPP Cathodic Protection Level 2 (CP2) Certification
- 2-year Engineering or Technical degree or equivalent experience; 4+ years preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of cathodic protection field testing and design experience
- Good understanding of Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
- Knowledge of NDE techniques and applications, including:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience reviewing and interpreting project packages, including P&IDs, equipment drawings, and engineering drawings
- Experience managing projects and balancing multiple tasks simultaneously
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to drive, stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, push, pull, reach, twist, and work on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel overnight to customer sites during the week and occasionally stay for several days at a time.
- Must be able to travel by automobile.
