This position provides advanced operational and administrative support for NCIC operations, interstate extradition, fugitive recovery, offender location activities and internal investigations for the Division of Probation and Parole. Duties require strict adherence to NCIC policy, extradition statutes, and Division procedures, as well as extensive coordination with local, state, and federal criminal justice partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serves as Certified Operator of Louisiana State Police NCIC terminal which is required to be monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Answers all NCIC inquiries "hits" via teletype correspondence from local, parish or federal law enforcement agencies to ensure wanted parole violators are detained for extradition. Provides arrest information to P&P districts as necessary.
  • Reviews incoming requests to flash warrants to ensure they are certified and extraditable.
  • Accesses and researches information from NCIC and other sources to accurately establish files once warrants have been requested to be flashed by districts.
  • Enters all flashed warrants in NCIC and Lotus Notes databases and notifies respective districts once warrants have been flashed.
  • Removes "clears" flashed warrants from NCIC once violators have been detained or are no longer wanted.
  • Retrieves and examines FBI and Louisiana state rap sheets to determine new arrests and disposition of local or out-of-state violators.
  • Assists various law enforcement agencies including State Police, Sheriff's offices, City police departments, FBI and P&P district offices in placing detainers on violators and arranging their transport or extradition back to Louisiana.
  • Verifies status of detainers on out of state violators to maintain accurate location of offenders and confirms detainers are still in place.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
