POSITION SUMMARY
The Correctional Officer provides safe and secure care and custody for inmates committed to the Eau Claire County Jail. This position supervises inmates in their assigned duties, prevents escapes, and maintains discipline in conformance with strict rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Citizen of the United States.
Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check resulting in no felony convictions in any jurisdiction unless the judgment or conviction has been reversed or a complete pardon has been granted.
Fingerprinting will be kept on file for identification purposes.
Position will be subject to pre-hire, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Position will require a pre-employment physical, audiogram, and testing required to wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Position will require a psychological examination.
Possess and maintain a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
Possess Wisconsin Jail Officer Certification or obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire and maintain certification thereafter.
As a condition of continued employment, attend 24 hours of annual ongoing training in law enforcement/corrections.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Accrual is based on years of service with the County, starting at 6.4 hours accruing each pay period (20.8 days per year), with the maximum accrual rate of 35.75 days per year.
Holidays: Eleven paid holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a Spring Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Years Eve Day.
Retirement: The County provides a retirement account in Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). Employees pay one-half of the actuarially required contributions.
