Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Correctional position requiring 2 years of recent acute care and correctional experience along with an active IL RN license.

Details

• Correctional facility setting on a Med/Surg unit
• Day shift schedule with 4x10-hour shifts, 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• No block scheduling accommodations available
• Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month)
• Mandatory float facility; clinicians may float to any unit within their specialty and occasionally outside their primary competency, with team-based support provided in those cases
• May be required to float to another facility within 50 miles of the home facility, with as little as 2 hours notice
• Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand upon consideration (no pending licenses accepted)
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Correctional nursing experience required
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac
• Experience with respiratory care including nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and oxygen tanks
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy and peripheral line care/management
• Experience with cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including use of rapid response/code teams
• Computerized documentation skills required
• Two professional references required prior to start, from most recent employers, one per employer
• International candidates must obtain SSN/SSC prior to consideration
• Proof of COVID vaccination required (booster not required)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a correctional Med/Surg unit environment
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Free, first come first served parking available
• RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days, and no RTO on weekends
• No holiday RTO permitted, and no RTO the day before or after a holiday
• Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and orientation, even if the break in contract was less than 30 days
• Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
• Non-billable orientation modules average 4 hours and are completed prior to start
• First-time travelers are not considered for this role
