    Description

Amazon Leo is seeking an exceptional Corporate Counsel to advise on the legal and regulatory questions that arise from building and operating a global satellite broadband network. You will work closely with engineering and product teams on questions involving network design, infrastructure deployment, and interconnection arrangements.

Amazon Leo is Amazon"s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

The role sits at the intersection of technology, regulation, and operational strategy. You will help teams understand the legal implications of technical decisions, develop frameworks for evaluating new proposals, and build processes that allow engineering and product teams to move quickly while maintaining compliance. This role requires someone who is curious about how complex technical systems work, comfortable developing expertise in unfamiliar areas, and able to translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for engineering and product teams.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Advise engineering and product teams on the legal and regulatory implications of network architecture and infrastructure decisions, including network design, routing, interconnection, and the use of third-party infrastructure
    • Develop scalable legal frameworks for evaluating proposed technical and operational changes, distinguishing changes to implementation from changes that materially affect service commitments or regulatory obligations
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks arising from network operations across multiple jurisdictions, including telecommunications regulation, data localization, and cross-border compliance requirements
    • Build cross-functional coordination mechanisms and repeatable processes that enable engineering and product teams to scale efficiently while maintaining appropriate legal oversight

    A day in the life

You"ll start your morning embedded with the engineering and product team as they design network architecture for a new region, helping them understand which design choices carry regulatory implications. Mid-morning, you"ll research how a country"s telecommunications framework applies to satellite broadband infrastructure, building the legal analysis that informs the team"s technical approach. After lunch, you"ll join a cross-functional session to map regulatory requirements for a new connectivity offering across target jurisdictions. Later, you"ll build a legal playbook that standardizes how the team evaluates regulatory readiness for new deployments. Throughout the day, you"re helping build the legal foundation for a network still taking shape.

    About the team

Amazon Leo"s legal team operates at the forefront of innovation, supporting one of Amazon"s most ambitious global expansion initiatives. We"re a collaborative group that values creative problem-solving and business partnership over simply identifying obstacles. Our team culture emphasizes proactive engagement, cross-functional collaboration, and finding pragmatic solutions to complex legal challenges. You"ll work alongside talented colleagues who are passionate about enabling Leo"s mission while maintaining the highest legal and ethical standards. We believe great legal counsel empowers businesses to scale efficiently and responsibly across borders.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
