Join our team as Corporate Counsel
ServiceMaster is looking for a dynamic and experienced attorney to provide strategic guidance across the company’s multiple brands in both the US and Canada. The Corporate Counsel will act as a trusted legal partner to the business, providing broad generalist legal support with a focus on contract review (drafting and negotiation), litigation management, and day-to-day corporate legal matters. This position offers exposure to a variety of legal issues in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and reports to senior legal leadership.
What you will do:
- Serve as a corporate generalist supporting the company’s growing legal needs across the business in a hands-on, hybrid work environment.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial, employment, and corporate agreements, including, but not limited to, customer and vendor master supply agreements, technology agreements, LOIs, proposals, change orders, employment agreements, and severance agreements.
- Provide timely, practical, and business-oriented legal guidance to internal stakeholders and brand management on legal, contractual, and risk-related matters.
- Lead the transformation and optimization of contracting legal support, including development and maintenance of templates, playbooks, processes, and contract governance.
- Identify, assess, and advise on legal and compliance risks, and develop strategies to protect and advance the company’s business and legal interests.
- Support litigation and pre-litigation matters, including coordination with outside counsel, document review, dispute resolution strategies, and claims management.
- Support company-wide compliance initiatives, including regulatory, licensure, and state-to-state requirements, and advise on the interpretation and application of applicable laws and regulations, including relating to brand marketing efforts and dynamic areas such as data privacy and TCPA compliance.
What you will bring:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school; active member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar
- 6+ years of legal experience as a corporate or commercial attorney, with broad generalist exposure
- Large law firm experience strongly preferred, with the ability to operate efficiently in an in-house environment
- Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
- Experience supporting and/or managing litigation and pre-litigation matters, including working with outside counsel
- Strong business judgment with the ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice to internal stakeholders, including the Legal Team’s senior attorneys
- Prior in-house experience and exposure to services-based industries preferred but not required
- Prior experience supporting a franchised business model or working with franchise-related legal matters is preferred, but not required
Work Location: This is a hybrid role that will work 2 to 3 days a week in our Sandy Springs GA headquarters and the remainder of the week remotely.
Compensation: Pay ranges at SMB are designed to reflect skills, experience, and business needs. The range shown excludes location-based adjustments, and most new hires start below the top of the range. For this role, the estimated range starts at $150,000.
