Amazon Leo is Amazon"s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Amazon Leo is seeking an exceptional Legal Counsel to lead the legal work for our international expansion of direct enterprise services and indirect partnership programs. This role will be the central legal owner for launching Leo"s business services and indirect partnership programs globally, working at the intersection of product development, business strategy, and legal compliance. As the legal owner, you will anticipate product and business needs before they arise, identify legal and regulatory risks across jurisdictions, and design practical solutions that enable the business to scale efficiently. You will establish launch processes, internal escalation paths, and cross-functional coordination mechanisms that allow Leo to enter new countries efficiently. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance legal rigor with business pragmatism - someone who finds creative solutions rather than simply identifying obstacles.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead legal strategy and execution for Amazon Leo"s international expansion, including direct enterprise services and indirect partnership programs across multiple jurisdictions
  • Design scalable legal frameworks and launch processes that enable efficient launch in new countries while ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Establish cross-functional coordination mechanisms between product development, business strategy, legal, and compliance teams to anticipate needs and remove blockers
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across diverse international regions, providing practical solutions that balance legal rigor with business objectives
  • Create internal escalation paths and decision-making processes that allow the business to move quickly while maintaining appropriate legal oversight

A day in the life

You"ll start your morning in a meeting with the product team to go over country launch business requirements, identifying legal issues and requirements that could impact Leo"s service expansion into new countries. Mid-morning, you"ll update the country launch book to incorporate the newly identified legal requirements, ensuring all regulatory and compliance considerations are documented and accessible to stakeholders. After lunch, you"ll join a cross-functional session with Business Development and Product teams to finalize legal frameworks for Leo"s indirect partner program. Your afternoon includes conducting a legal readiness review for an upcoming country launch, walking stakeholders through legal and compliance checkpoints, and drafting a legal playbook that standardizes legal requirements - creating repeatable processes that reduce launch timelines. Throughout the day, you"re the go-to legal strategist who turns obstacles into opportunities, building the processes that allow Leo to scale globally effectively.

About the team

Amazon Leo"s legal team operates at the forefront of innovation, supporting one of Amazon"s most ambitious global expansion initiatives. We"re a collaborative group that values creative problem-solving and business partnership over simply identifying obstacles. Our team culture emphasizes proactive engagement, cross-functional collaboration, and finding pragmatic solutions to complex legal challenges. You"ll work alongside talented colleagues who are passionate about enabling Leo"s mission while maintaining the highest legal and ethical standards. We believe great legal counsel empowers businesses to scale efficiently and responsibly across borders.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
