Primary Purpose:
To provide district-wide leadership, coordination, and support for the Physical Education and Pre-Athletic programs across all Waco ISD campuses. This role serves as the vital bridge between the general PE curriculum and the competitive Athletic Department. The primary objective is to ensure instructional alignment, support coaching staff and PE teachers, and implement a "vertical stream" of athletic preparation that begins in elementary school and culminates in high school success. Follow direction of the athletic department on the curriculum to which will be assessed, Elementary, Middle School and High School.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas PE teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Valid Texas teaching certificate in another core content area other than (Physical Education, Health, or Special Education)
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s) assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of how elementary motor skills transition into middle school "Pre-Athletics" and eventually into high school varsity competition.
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to motivate staff and students with the energy of a head coach while maintaining the organization of an administrator.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Deep understanding of Waco ISD's athletic culture and High School programs Ability to manage logistics across 11 elementary, 3 middle, and 2 high school campuses simultaneously.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching/coaching experience
Proven experience in a leadership or coordinator role (Head Coach, Campus Coordinator, or Athletic Director experience is a plus)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinate Curriculum: Develop and monitor a rigorous, TEKS-aligned K-12 PE curriculum that promotes physical literacy, health, and lifelong wellness. Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs andPlan and Promote events during major functions.
Coaching Support: Act as a primary resource for PE teachers and coaches, providing "in-the-trenches" support, modeling instructional strategies, and assisting with classroom management.
Professional Development: Plan and facilitate district-wide vertical alignment meetings to ensure elementary and middle school programs are effectively feeding into high school programs.
6th Grade Pre-Athletics: Standardize and oversee the 6th Grade Pre-Athletic classes at all 3 middle schools. Ensure these classes function as a "bridge" by introducing sport-specific terminology, strength/conditioning fundamentals, and UIL compliance standards.
High School Alignment: Ensure all middle school PE and Pre-Athletic lesson plans follow the High School Athletic Schedules and coaching philosophies. This ensures that when a student reaches the 9th-grade level, they are already familiar with the district's athletic "playbook" and expectations.
Scheduling Synergy: Coordinate with High School Head Coaches to align middle school skill-work cycles with the seasonal sports currently in progress at the high school level.
Facility & Equipment Oversight: Monitor the condition of PE equipment and facilities across 16 campuses; assist in the procurement of standardized gear to ensure equity across the district.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure all programs follow district safety protocols, heat stress guidelines, and UIL regulations.
Data & Evaluation: Use fitness assessment data (e.g., FitnessGram) to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for instructional adjustments.
Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, and instructional aides; maintains required inventory records.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required and conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Communication: Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
May teach Physical Education classes for handicapped pupils, interscholastic athletics, or drill team to senior high pupils.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.Frequent district-wide travel; standing, walking, and occasional lifting of athletic equipment. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat/cold) during campus visits and athletic events. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of pupils taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
