General Description
The Coordinator of Environmental Programming is responsible for managing the operational, administrative, and educational functions of the Maplewood Nature Center. They also coordinate the City of Rochester's Connecting Children to Nature Initiatives and work with community partners to promote environmental programs. The employee in this position exercises both direct and indirect supervision over full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff. Direct supervision is received from the Director of Programs and Park Stewardship. Performs related work as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. Typical Work Activities
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, PLUS either I, II, III, or IV.:
I. Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Anthropology, Biology, or other related field AND one (1) year of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) in conducting, instructing, or overseeing horticulture or environmental education programs OR experience in ornamental horticulture and landscape installation and maintenance;
II. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Anthropology, Biology, or other related field AND three (3) years of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) as described in I.;
III. Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Anthropology, Biology, or other related field AND five (5) years of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) as described in I.;
IV. Seven (7) years of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) as described in I.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
New York State Driver's License at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment in this title.
