Summary of Position

Coordinates, implements, and supports experiential learning and engagement initiatives for the Honors College and the Division of Experiential Learning and Engagement. Supports Honors College recruitment and engagement events. Coordinates Division sponsored high school outreach and readiness programs, leadership, and community-engaged learning opportunities. Provides mentoring and coaching to students through student success and retention initiatives. Collaborates with campus and community partners to facilitate programming that promotes leadership development, college access, experiential learning, and student success. Assists with the planning and implementation of Honors College events, Division experiential learning initiatives, and mentoring programs that support student engagement, persistence, and academic success. Ensures the daily function of operations and services related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective.

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Coordinates retention and student success programming through student outreach, individualized student meetings, and initiatives that promote student engagement, persistence, and academic success.

Provides mentoring and coaching to students through current student meetings, transfer student transition meetings, completion plan meetings, not registered outreach, and other student success initiatives to support the college.

Collaborates with Honors College and Division of Experiential Learning and Engagement faculty, staff, and campus partners to coordinate event logistics, communications, participant engagement, and operational support for retention and student engagement initiatives.

Coordinates the planning, implementation, and assessment of high school program outreach, leadership, community-engaged and experiential learning activities, and college readiness programs.

Coordinates program logistics, participant communications, scheduling, materials, and collaboration with faculty, staff, school districts, and community partners to ensure the successful delivery of college and division programming.

Maintains records related to student participation, outreach efforts, and program activities. Monitors student engagement and follows up with students as appropriate.

Represents the Honors College and the Division of Experiential Learning and Engagement at recruitment, outreach, campus, and community engagement events, fostering relationships with prospective students, families, schools, and community partners.

Coordinates daily tasks related to one or more assigned components of overall programs and/or services as assigned.

Regularly communicates with supervisor and other staff, including student workers, as required or needed in the completion of daily tasks in support of overall goals and objectives.

Prepares and maintains accurate records of daily tasks in accordance with applicable policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate.

Gathers data and prepares reports and other information/documentation for supervisory review?related to programs and/or services, or one or more assigned components.

Prepares for and attends events.

Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events.

Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.

Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays as assigned for department and student programs.

Primary Location: Youngstown

Supervision Exercised: May exercise supervision over student employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: university policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives; department/division policies and procedures; workplace safety practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; office management.

Skill in: use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree; and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Experience in higher education student affairs, experiential learning, or college access programs supporting early college or pre-college student populations.

Physical Requirements: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform sedentary work.

Sedentary: Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs may be defined as Sedentary when walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other Sedentary criteria are met.
