Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation:  cooks are tasked with washing, peeling, cutting, and chopping vegetables, as well as measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes. This foundational work is essential for the timely assembly of dishes. 

    
2. Kitchen Organization: They maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring that all ingredients are properly stored and labeled. This includes adhering to food safety standards to prevent cross-contamination. 

    
3. Assisting Chefs: Prep cooks support chefs and line cooks by preparing ingredients and sometimes cooking simple dishes under supervision. They help ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly during service. 

    
4. Inventory Management: They monitor stock levels of food supplies, report shortages, and assist in inventory counts to keep the kitchen well-stocked. 

    
5. Sanitation and Cleanliness: Maintaining cleanliness is crucial; prep cooks are responsible for cleaning their workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment regularly to uphold hygiene standards. 
    
    

Skills and Qualifications

• Basic Cooking Knowledge: Understanding of cooking principles and kitchen equipment is essential for efficient food preparation. 

   
• Knife Skills: Proficiency in using knives for chopping, dicing, and slicing ingredients is important.
