JOB SUMMARY
Convenience store clerks greet customers, scan the bar code or enter the price of merchandise into a cash register, total the sale and accept payment for the goods. They assist customers in finding items as needed. Clerks may also be responsible for stocking the shelves with new inventory, keeping an eye out for potential shoplifters and helping to quickly clean up spills or other messes that occur in the store. The Convenience store clerk's main responsibility is to checkout customers' purchases accurately and efficiently while providing a positive customer service experience for the customer.
JOB DUTIES
Greet customers and provide customer service.
Turn gasoline pumps on or off, once customers have paid.
Scan items for purchase at registers.
Works a cash register and makes correct change for customers.
Perform general cleaning duties around the store or refill food and drink appliances such as coffeemakers.
Keeps work area free from safety hazards and report any hazards found to management.
Stocking and merchandising duties such as filling shelves, building displays or putting up signs.
Perform security functions such as watching for possible shoplifting or reporting drivers who pump gas and leave without paying.
Verify the age of the customer and refuse to sell the goods if they are underage, when selling lottery, alcohol or tobacco products.
Maintains knowledge of all policies and procedures for proper checkout of customers.
Discreetly notifies managers of items needing attention.
Deals with multiple customers professionally.
