Top 3 Skillsets

1. Terminations - hooking up wires to terminal blocks and field devices, loop checks
2. Reading wiring diagrams - can look at a print and trace where a wire goes
3. PLC exposure - wiring PLCs to valves/sensors, automation background is a plus (Axon techs are great fits)

Qualifying Questions

• How many years doing low voltage construction? How many years as a technician?
• Tell me about a termination job you did recently, what were you connecting and what tools did you use?
• Have you worked with PLCs before? What did you wire them to?
• Can you read a wiring diagram and trace a circuit on your own?
• Any data center experience? (not required, just a bonus)
• Can you be on your feet 10 hours a day, climb ladders, work in tight spaces?
• Can you pass a background check and drug test?

Day in the Life

Tech shows up to a data center jobsite.

They spend the day inside electrical panels and junction boxes, terminating control wiring, wiring up sensors and instruments, and making sure everything matches the diagram.

They're testing and troubleshooting equipment, checking that signals are reading correctly, and working alongside engineers who are commissioning the systems. It's hands on, on your feet most of the day, some ladders and tight spaces, but it's steady daytime hours (5am-3:30pm) with 20hours guaranteed OT every week.

This is a growing account with more projects already lined up, so it's a strong shot at long term work, not just a one and done gig.
