    Controls Technician

    Location: Litchfield Park, AZ
    Job Type: Contract

    Position Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Controls Technician to support electrical controls and instrumentation work on a large-scale industrial/data center project in Litchfield Park, Arizona. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in industrial controls, instrumentation, automation systems, and electrical construction environments.

    The Controls Technician will perform installation, troubleshooting, calibration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities related to power monitoring systems, building control systems, and industrial automation equipment. Candidates must be capable of working with limited supervision and possess strong technical skills in electrical controls and instrumentation.

    This project is expected to last approximately four months, with potential opportunities for continued work on future projects at the same campus.

    Responsibilities

    • Install, terminate, and troubleshoot control wiring and instrumentation systems.
    • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, prints, and BIM models.
    • Terminate conductors within control panels, junction boxes, and field devices.
    • Install and connect instrumentation devices including flow switches, sensors, transmitters, and related equipment.
    • Perform RS-485 and Modbus communication wiring.
    • Terminate shielded twisted-pair cabling.
    • Install wiring within existing conduit and cable tray systems.
    • Troubleshoot instrumentation functionality and I/O operation.
    • Calibrate instrumentation using a variety of testing equipment and meters.
    • Set up and commission new instrumentation systems according to project specifications.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on testing apparatus and related equipment.
    • Support automation projects involving large industrial processes.
    • Utilize computerized testing equipment and software to perform diagnostics and generate reports.
    • Assist engineers with PLC system testing and commissioning activities.
    • Safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
    • Maintain compliance with project safety requirements and quality standards.

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 4 years of low-voltage electrical construction experience.
    • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Controls Technician, Instrumentation Technician, Automation Technician, or similar role.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Strong understanding of electrical controls, instrumentation, and automation systems.
    • Experience reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
    • Experience working inside electrical panels and junction boxes.
    • Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and calibration procedures.
    • Familiarity with communication wiring protocols including RS-485 and Modbus.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Recent data center construction experience.
    • Industrial electrician background.
    • Controls, instrumentation, PLC, or automation technician experience.
    • Experience in water/wastewater facilities or industrial process plants.
    • OSHA 10 certification.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish.
