Controls Technician

Location: North Kansas City, MO 
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $25.00-$37.00/hour 

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled, customer-focused Controls Technician to service, maintain, install, and troubleshoot electrical controls and process instrumentation used in water and wastewater applications.

This hands-on field role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working independently, and supporting customers in a fast-paced environment. The Controls Technician will work on a range of equipment, from basic pump control systems to VFDs, soft starters, specialty controllers, electrical panels, and process instrumentation.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Independently and collaboratively service and maintain electrical controls equipment commonly used in the water and wastewater industry.
  • Install, start up, calibrate, and troubleshoot process instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, level, temperature, and analytical instruments.
  • Perform startup, troubleshooting, retrofits, repairs, and maintenance on pump control systems, including across-the-line starters, soft starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and specialty pump controllers.
  • Complete electrical wiring, conduit installation, control panel setup, and service entrance equipment work.
  • Assist with planning, installing, repairing, and troubleshooting new or modified electrical systems.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and provide timely, professional field service support to customers.
  • Serve as an Emergency Field Service Responder, including travel and work outside normal business hours when required.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers, team members, and leadership regarding project status, repairs, and service needs.
  • Follow all company, customer, and applicable safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational education in mechanics, electronics, electrical systems, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical control systems.
  • Experience with process instrumentation, pump controls, VFDs, soft starters, or related electrical equipment is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, respond to emergency service needs, and travel as required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.
  • Proactive, dependable, and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Gmail, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, parts, and materials required for the role.
