Controls Technician III Location: San Leandro, California Pay Rate: $38.00 – $40.00 per hour
Position Overview An industrial automation and production organization seeks a senior Controls Technician for a six-month onsite contract in San Leandro, California. This role owns automation and control systems, keeping production equipment operating reliably and safely.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled production equipment, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and field instrumentation
Work within PLC programs to diagnose logic faults and make approved modifications under change control
Calibrate instrumentation and verify proper operation of control panels and safety systems
Maintain machine safety systems — interlocks, light curtains, and e-stop circuits — in full compliance
Document control system changes, wiring modifications, and program backups accurately
Support root cause analysis on recurring faults using alarm logs and trend data
Provide technical guidance to maintenance and production colleagues
Requirements
Significant hands-on experience as a controls, automation, or instrumentation technician
PLC troubleshooting proficiency and ability to read ladder logic and electrical schematics
Working knowledge of VFDs, motor control, and industrial networking
Lockout/tagout and arc flash safety competency
Availability for full onsite assignment in San Leandro, CA
Preferred Qualifications
Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC and programming environment experience
Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, Profibus, or DeviceNet
Associate degree or technical certification in electrical technology, automation, or mechatronics
