Position Overview

Cullerton Group is seeking a Controls Engineer - Robotics & Automation to support advanced manufacturing automation and robotic systems at a customer facility in Whitmore Lake, Michigan.

This is a hands-on, onsite position requiring direct experience working within General Motors manufacturing environments and a strong background in FANUC robotics, robotic vision, controls integration, startup, and troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will hold current GM GRS certification and have hands-on experience programming and supporting FANUC CRX collaborative robots and FANUC 3D Vision/3DV systems.

Responsibilities

• 
  Program, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize FANUC robotic systems, including FANUC CRX collaborative robots
  
• 
  Configure and support FANUC 3D Vision/3DV systems for robotic guidance, part identification, positioning, and automated manufacturing applications
  
• 
  Support robotic system integration, installation, startup, debugging, commissioning, and production launch activities
  
• 
  Program and modify robotic paths, positions, frames, Tool Center Points (TCPs), payloads, and application parameters
  
• 
  Troubleshoot robot faults, controls issues, I/O, sensors, communications, safety systems, and peripheral equipment
  
• 
  Configure and validate robot-to-PLC, vision, tooling, and other automation-system interfaces
  
• 
  Perform robot calibration, mastering, touch-ups, recovery, and cycle optimization
  
• 
  Support safety configuration and validation, including FANUC DCS and applicable GM safety requirements
  
• 
  Diagnose automation and equipment issues and drive problems through root-cause identification and resolution
  
• 
  Support production and engineering teams during equipment launches, commissioning, validation, and ongoing manufacturing operations
  
• 
  Ensure robotic applications and automation systems comply with applicable GM Global Robotics Standards (GRS) and customer specifications
  
• 
  Review and interpret electrical drawings, controls documentation, robot layouts, and equipment specifications
  
• 
  Work directly with controls, robotics, manufacturing, maintenance, and integration teams to resolve technical issues
  

Required Qualifications

• 
  Current GM GRS certification
  
• 
  Previous hands-on experience supporting automation or robotics within a General Motors manufacturing environment
  
• 
  Strong FANUC robot programming and troubleshooting experience
  
• 
  Hands-on experience with FANUC CRX collaborative robots
  
• 
  Experience with FANUC 3D Vision / 3DV
  
• 
  Experience with robotic startup, commissioning, debugging, and production support
  
• 
  Ability to configure and troubleshoot robot I/O, communication interfaces, sensors, and safety systems
  
• 
  Strong understanding of industrial automation and manufacturing equipment
  
• 
  Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and controls documentation
  
• 
  Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  
• 
  Ability to work onsite in Whitmore Lake, Michigan
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 
  FANUC DCS safety experience or certification
  
• 
  FANUC iRVision experience, including 2D and 3D vision applications
  
• 
  Experience with FANUC RoboGuide
  
• 
  Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC-based automation systems
  
• 
  Familiarity with GM controls and automation standards such as GCCS and GCCH
  
• 
  Experience with Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, or similar industrial communication networks
  
• 
  Experience supporting automotive assembly, material handling, inspection, joining, or other automated manufacturing applications
  

Work Environment

This position is primarily hands-on and will require work directly with robotic and automated manufacturing equipment in an industrial environment. The Controls Engineer will work closely with engineering, integration, manufacturing, and production personnel to bring automation systems into production and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
