Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and debugging Siemens PLCs on the manufacturing floor, primarily using Siemens TIA and occasionally Siemens S7/Step7. You will assist maintenance and production employees with Siemens troubleshooting, work with Siemens VFDs and HMIs, and perform systems upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Program and commission Siemens PLCs, focusing on TIA and S7/Step7, on the manufacturing floor.
  • Troubleshoot and debug Siemens PLCs to ensure smooth operation.
  • Assist maintenance and production staff with Siemens troubleshooting.
  • Work with Siemens Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Perform and oversee systems upgrades as needed.

Essential Skills

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting, specifically with Siemens TIA and Step 7.
  • Bachelor"s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field with 4+ years of Controls Engineering experience, OR an Associate"s Degree in the same fields with 8+ years of experience.
  • Significant experience with Siemens systems, particularly TIA or S7.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the steel industry or a similar sector.
  • Understanding of power distribution and AC/DC motor drives.
  • Knowledge of industrial LANs and field bus networking.
  • Ability to program PLCs from scratch.
  • Experience with large automation projects and complex systems.

Work Environment

The role is primarily onsite in a steel environment, which can be dirty and hot. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required. There is potential for some remote flexibility for the right candidate. The position offers the opportunity to work with the latest Siemens technology, and there is no travel required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
