Project Manager - Controls Engineer
Setting/Hours: Hybrid - Flexible Remote | 8-5 M-F

Trak group is partnering with a growing client seeking an experienced Project Manager - Controls Engineer to lead industrial automation projects while aligning customers and technical teams around scope, schedule, budget, and quality. This role will work closely with Account Managers, customers, and automation specialists to ensure projects are delivered successfully while maintaining strong customer relationships and project profitability.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on Rockwell Automation technical experience with proven project management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, sales teams, and technical specialists.
Responsibilities
Lead automation projects from planning through successful completion.
Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, quality, resources, and customer expectations.
Schedule technical assignments and ensure efficient use of specialist resources.
Clearly define project expectations, including budget, schedule, deliverables, and desired outcomes.
Monitor project progress and follow up with technical specialists to keep assignments on schedule.
Identify project risks, roadblocks, and issues and drive timely resolution.
Ensure project teams follow established processes and procedures.
Review and update remaining project hours weekly for fixed-price projects.
Monitor project financial performance and identify potential budget or margin concerns.
Review invoicing requirements and provide regular updates to appropriate internal teams.
Maintain frequent communication with Account Managers and customers regarding project status.
Build trusted relationships with customers, Account Managers, and technical specialists.
Provide technical guidance and support throughout project execution.
Facilitate conflict resolution and maintain alignment among project stakeholders.
Drive accountability for project deliverables and commitments.
Support continuous improvement of project management processes and procedures.
Measure success through customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, Account Manager satisfaction, and project margin performance.
5+ years of industrial automation project management experience.
5+ years of hands-on experience executing automation projects using Rockwell Automation platforms.
Undergraduate degree required.
Strong understanding of industrial automation projects and technical project execution.
Demonstrated experience managing scope, schedule, budget, resources, and quality.
Experience managing fixed-price projects and monitoring project hours and financial performance.
Strong customer-facing experience with the ability to manage expectations and communicate project status.
Ability to effectively coordinate technical specialists, customers, and sales/account management teams.
Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to identify and remove project roadblocks.
Strong conflict-resolution and active-listening skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Strong technical knowledge of Rockwell Automation controls and platforms.
Background executing controls, PLC, HMI, or industrial automation projects.
Experience working in a systems integration or automation solutions environment.
Experience managing project margins and invoicing requirements.
Experience working directly with Account Managers or technical sales teams.
Ability to provide technical guidance to automation specialists while maintaining overall project accountability.
