Controls Engineer

The Controls Engineer will report directly into the Engineering Manager and be responsible for:

  • Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial control systems and automation equipment.
  • Develop PLC programs from the ground up using ladder logic and support modifications to existing systems.
  • Configure and support HMI interfaces and operator control systems.
  • Diagnose electrical and control-related issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and validation of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, panel designs, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Implement machine safety solutions including safety relays, interlocks, emergency stops, and safety scanners.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, safety, and quality enhancements.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems.
  • Advanced PLC programming experience, including developing programs from blank projects.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking and I/O systems including Digital, Analog, Fieldbus, Ethernet, and Serial communications.
  • Experience with HMI development and creating intuitive operator interfaces.
  • Proficiency creating electrical schematics and panel layouts using CAD software.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, stepper motors, motion control, sensors, and industrial automation technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
