Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Controls Engineer 1. The work will be done onsite full-time in Alpharetta, GA. This is a 12-month long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $36/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, programming, and implementation of generator control switchgear Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications within a fast-paced engineering environment. This role will work closely with Power System Engineers and HMI engineering teams to configure, test, troubleshoot, and validate HMI software and hardware solutions supporting automated switchgear systems. The engineer will contribute to electrical design activities, process improvements, system testing, and field support while gaining exposure to advanced industrial automation and power systems technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers looking to grow within controls engineering and industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, modify, develop, and implement HMI software programming for generator control switchgear applications
• Configure, program, test, and validate HMI hardware and software systems
• Collaborate with Power System Engineers to troubleshoot and validate HMI programming and system performance
• Support field issues and provide remote HMI installation and troubleshooting support
• Analyze plant processes and recommend system and process improvements
• Perform technical calculations related to electrical requirements, motor controls, and robotic safety standards
• Assist in creating and maintaining electrical design schedules from concept through system completion
• Ensure compliance with all safety objectives, engineering standards, and legal requirements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering preferred)
• 0–2 years of engineering experience; internships and co-op experience will be considered
• Open to candidates with a 2-year technical degree plus 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience
• Experience with HMI software platforms such as FactoryTalk, RSView, Vijeo, Crimson, Kepware, or EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in team environments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently within a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Programming experience with VBA Scripting, JavaScript, HTML, C++, Python, SQL, or Function Block Programming (FBD)
• Experience with industrial automation, switchgear systems, PLCs, SCADA, or controls systems
• Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, or power systems environments
• Familiarity with electrical controls, motor controls, and automation systems
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting HMI hardware and software issues preferred
Work Environment
• Onsite full-time role located in Alpharetta, GA
• Work environment includes office, engineering lab, and manufacturing floor exposure
• Approximately 80% office / 20% manufacturing floor interaction
• PPE including safety glasses and safety boots required when entering manufacturing areas
