    Location: Lake Bluff, IL 60044
    Duration: 12+months

I am looking for a Controls & Electrical Designer to join our Sterling team, in this role you will support HVAC, utility, and building automation projects in an industrial facility.  This is a hands-on design role with approximately 80% controls and 20% electrical design, split between 50% CAD work and 50% field verification and equipment walkdowns.

I am looking for someone who understands how facility equipment, instrumentation, and controls connect—and can independently develop and modify engineering drawing packages.

    What you’ll do
    • Perform field walkdowns to verify equipment, instrumentation, wiring, and existing installation conditions.
    • Develop and modify controls and electrical drawings using AutoCAD 2022.
    • Update existing design templates and produce construction and demolition drawing packages.
    • Design controls for air handling units, chillers, pumps, fans, and related HVAC equipment.
    • Support plant utility systems, including piping instrumentation, valves, sensors, and actuators.
    • Develop wiring diagrams involving 24V control circuits, 120V electrical, instrumentation, and VFD interfaces.
    • Coordinate Siemens BAS controls, control panels, and system interfaces with subject matter experts and engineering teams.
    • Use Meridian for engineering drawing and document management.

    What we’re looking for
    • 5+ years of experience designing HVAC,  utility, or building automation controls in industrial facilities in the U.S.
    • Must have experience in developing and modifying engineering drawing packages in AutoCAD.
    • Working experience in field instrumentation, control wiring, VFDs, and HVAC equipment.
    • Experience verifying existing conditions in a manufacturing campus through equipment walkdowns.
    • Experience with Siemens building automation systems (BAS) and associated controls.
    • Ability to coordinate design details with engineering teams and BAS specialists.

    Preferred experience
    • Pharmaceutical facility controls design.
    • Meridian document management.
    • Construction and demolition drawing packages for modifications to existing facilities.

Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or genetic information.
