    Description

    Join a growing manufacturer and distributor entering its next phase of expansion. Based in Van Nuys, our client is seeking a Controller to help build the accounting infrastructure needed to support the company’s ambitious growth plans. Post-acquisition, leadership is investing in the finance organization as the business scales its operations and expands its footprint. This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys building structure, improving financial visibility, and creating scalable processes in a dynamic, private equity-backed environment.

     

    Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Controller will lead the accounting function and partner closely with operational leaders across the business. The ideal candidate will bring strong GAAP, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and audit experience within manufacturing or other inventory-intensive environments. Experience supporting consumer products, wholesale distribution, omnichannel retail, or e-commerce businesses is a plus.


    What You'll Do

    • Lead the monthly close process, maintaining a close-plus-5 reporting cadence while driving improvements in accuracy and efficiency.
    • Oversee financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, journal entries, and accruals, ensuring all key accounts are fully supported, audit-ready, and accurately reflected in the financial statements each month. 
    • Ensure inventory accounting, COGS, revenue recognition, and retailer chargebacks are accurately reflected within the general ledger.
    • Partner with the VP of Finance to strengthen and document accounting policies, internal controls, and operating procedures that support scalability and operational excellence.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the accounting team while driving accountability, process improvement, and operational excellence.
    • Maintain ownership of the annual audit process and serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors and accounting partners.

    What You Bring

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
    • Strong experience in manufacturing or other inventory-intensive business environments is required. Experience in consumer products, wholesale distribution, omnichannel retail, or e-commerce is preferred.
    • Deep expertise in inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, and COGS analysis.
    • Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
    • Experience leading annual audits and serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
    • Proficiency with retailer chargebacks, deductions, and revenue recognition.
    • Advanced ERP and MS Excel capabilities.
    • CPA designation, active or inactive, is strongly preferred.
    • PE-backed company experience and board reporting exposure are a plus.
    • Willingness to work on-site in the Greater San Fernando Valley area on a hybrid schedule (typically 4 days per week).

    Our client offers a base salary of $160K-$190K, plus a performance-based bonus opportunity of up to 25%, comprehensive health benefits, and the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of a PE-backed organization.
