Controller
Location: Syracuse, NY (Onsite)
Salary: $100,000–$120,000 + Comprehensive Benefits
Our client, a well-established nonprofit organization in Central New York, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee its accounting and financial operations. This position will partner closely with executive leadership to provide financial guidance, ensure strong fiscal stewardship, and support the organization's long-term goals.

Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, treasury, and financial reporting.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the annual budgeting process, forecasting, financial analysis, and performance reporting.
- Prepare financial reports and present results and recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Oversee grant accounting, compliance reporting, indirect cost allocations, and financial reporting for multiple funding sources.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, investments, and overall financial health.
- Coordinate the annual audit and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and process improvements.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team while fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
- Partner with department leaders to support sound financial planning and informed business decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Experience leading accounting teams in a complex organization.
- Previous nonprofit accounting, grant management, and multi-entity experience is highly desirable.
- ERP experience required; NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- CPA a plus but not required
