Description
CFS is partnering with a leading nonprofit organization in Providence, RI to hire a Controller.
Controller
Location: Providence, RI (Hybrid Schedule)
Salary: $130,000-$150,000
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and brings extensive nonprofit accounting expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
- Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory reporting
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
- Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements
- Support senior leadership with financial planning and strategic decision-making
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Extensive nonprofit accounting experience required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, grants management, and nonprofit financial reporting
- Prior leadership and staff management experience
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with nonprofit ERP or accounting systems preferred
