Job Details

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the firm’s accounting and financial operations. This individual will lead the day-to-day accounting function, manage and develop accounting staff, strengthen internal controls, and provide accurate, timely financial information to firm leadership.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly and year-end closing processes.
Prepare financial statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
Manage billing, collections, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and cash-management functions.
Monitor work in process, accounts-receivable aging, collections, realization, and other law-firm performance metrics.
Oversee client trust accounting, reconciliations, compliance procedures, and related internal controls.
Manage banking relationships and support short- and long-term cash-flow planning.
Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting personnel while remaining willing to assist with day-to-day work.
Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting capabilities, and accounting processes.
Provide practical financial analysis and reporting to firm leadership.
Gradually take on broader financial planning and strategic responsibilities as the role develops.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
At least 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
Previous experience supervising or developing accounting personnel.
Strong knowledge of general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, cash management, and internal controls.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting, billing, or practice-management systems.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet firm deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism when working with confidential financial information.
Law-firm or professional-services accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Experience with client trust accounting, legal billing, WIP, realization, and collections is highly valued.
CPA designation is preferred but not required.
