Controller (Confidential Search) Philadelphia, PA | Hybrid
Overview Riderflex is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify a Controller who will play a key leadership role within the finance and accounting function. This is a confidential search.
This individual will report directly to the CFO and will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations, strengthening internal processes, and providing leadership and development to an established and collaborative finance team.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory guidelines
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts in partnership with leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 5–6 accounting professionals
Strengthen internal controls and improve accounting processes and workflows
Provide leadership in delegating responsibilities and building team accountability
Partner closely with the CFO on financial strategy, reporting, and operational priorities
Assist with audits and ensure readiness for internal and external financial reviews
Oversee accounting for real estate development activities including construction draws, loan compliance, developer fee recognition, equity syndication entries (LIHTC), and property management related accounting activities
Required Qualifications
5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting leadership role
Strong technical accounting foundation and hands-on experience
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team
Ability to adapt to a changing environment and bring structure to evolving processes
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with real estate or construction accounting
Experience in nonprofit accounting environments
CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
Bilingual Spanish is a plus
Experience with LIHTC partnerships and equity syndication accounting
Experience with HUD or federal program compliance reporting
Familiarity with single audit requirements under Uniform Guidance
Proficiency in nonprofit accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, MIP/Abila) and advanced Excel skills
Work Environment and Structure
Hybrid role, with a minimum of three days onsite in the Philadelphia office
Opportunity for additional onsite presence based on business needs
Relocation support may be considered for the right candidate
Compensation and Benefits
Target compensation of $120,000
