About the Role

The Controller will oversee the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, budgeting support, and internal controls. This person will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial information while continuing to build scalable processes and best practices.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who is comfortable working in a mission-driven, growing environment and can balance technical accounting expertise with operational problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and reconciliations.
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and financial analyses for leadership.
Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Manage the organization's annual audit and serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors.
Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections in partnership with leadership.
Monitor cash flow, operating performance, and financial trends and communicate key insights to management.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable GAAP.
Oversee grant and restricted-fund accounting, including tracking revenues and expenditures and ensuring funds are used in accordance with applicable requirements.
Partner with program and operational leaders to improve financial processes and accountability.
Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and strengthen accounting processes as the organization grows.
Develop and maintain appropriate financial controls and documentation.
Assist leadership with financial modeling, strategic planning, and special projects as needed.
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff as the organization continues to scale.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership capacity.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
Experience with nonprofit accounting and/or healthcare accounting strongly preferred.
Experience managing audits and working with external accounting firms.
Strong knowledge of internal controls, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting/ERP systems.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a growing organization.
CPA or nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
