Description

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking a Controller for a long-term role with a manufacturing company located in Tigard, OR. The Controller is a key financial leadership role responsible for guiding accounting operations and financial strategy as the company moves into its next phase of growth. This role goes beyond traditional accounting oversight, partnering closely with the Company President and senior leadership to improve profitability, optimize pricing and margins, evaluate financial risks and opportunities, and support strategic growth decisions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing accounting leader with advanced costing expertise, strong business acumen, and a near-CFO-level strategic financial mindset.

Pay:
$105,000/year+

Controller Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic financial partner to the Company President and senior leadership.

  • Develop financial models, scenario analyses, and forecasts supporting strategic planning, capital investments, and long-term business goals.

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve profitability, streamline operations, and proactively address financial risks and opportunities.

  • Design, implement, and continuously refine advanced costing methodologies, including standard costing, job costing, and activity-based costing.

  • Conduct data-driven pricing analysis incorporating material, labor, and overhead cost trends to optimize margins across product lines.

  • Build and maintain costing models and reporting tools providing leadership visibility into margin performance by product, customer, or project.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy.

  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable utilizing QuickBooks and ERP/MRP systems.

  • Prepare accurate financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements, for leadership and the company's outside CPA firm.

  • Monitor and forecast company cash flow to support operational needs and strategic growth initiatives.

  • Coordinate with the company's outside CPA firm on tax planning and filings; tax preparation and filings remain managed externally.

  • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards (GAAP).

  • Lead and develop the accounting/finance function, currently a team of one, with responsibility for building and scaling the team as the company grows.

  • Champion effective use of QuickBooks and ERP/MRP systems and evaluate upgrades or integrations that support continued growth.

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready documentation across accounting functions.\

 

Controller Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including prior experience at the Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Controller level.

  • Manufacturing industry experience required, with a strong understanding of inventory, job costing, and manufacturing accounting principles.

  • Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks and ERP/MRP systems required.

  • Proven experience managing and developing a small accounting/finance team.

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting principles.

  • Experience developing costing models, performing margin analysis, and supporting data-driven pricing decisions.

  • Near-CFO-level strategic financial mindset with the ability to use financial data to guide profitability, operational performance, and long-term growth.

  • Experience partnering with outside CPA firms or auditors preferred.

  • Experience in a small or mid-sized manufacturing company where the Controller wears multiple hats preferred.

  • Demonstrated success supporting a company through a growth or expansion phase preferred.

  • CPA or MBA a plus.
