The ideal candidate has spent the past three to five years as a Controller for a healthcare organization with approximately $300 million to $350 million in annual revenue. This role requires someone who can operate strategically while remaining close to the details, lead a lean accounting team and build scalable processes in a fast-moving, private-equity environment.
Key Responsibilities
Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close across multiple entities, producing accurate GAAP-compliant financial statements on an accrual basis.
Maintain and improve a 10-business-day close cycle.
Oversee healthcare and EMS revenue recognition, including ASC 606, contractual allowances, bad debt, payer-mix adjustments and third-party reimbursement timing.
Calculate and review IBNR accruals related to self-insured healthcare, workers’ compensation, automobile claims and other insurance programs.
Prepare and review journal entries, balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals and supporting schedules while maintaining a clean, audit-ready general ledger.
Lead and develop an accounting team of fewer than 10 employees across AP, AR, payroll, revenue accounting and general accounting.
Build and maintain an appropriate AP approval hierarchy, purchasing controls and payment workflows.
Identify opportunities to automate accounting processes, reduce manual work and improve the accuracy and speed of financial reporting.
Bring NetSuite implementation experience and help lead system configuration, data migration, chart-of-accounts design, workflows, controls and reporting.
Oversee fixed-asset accounting, capital projects and lease accounting under ASC 842.
Manage consolidated reporting for multi-entity and multi-state operations.
Prepare weekly cash-flow reporting and partner with the CFO on liquidity planning, forecasting and cash strategy.
Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with operational leaders.
Prepare management reporting packages, operating analyses and ad hoc financial reporting for the CFO, executive leadership and investors.
Lead the annual financial-statement audit and coordinate lender, insurance, tax, regulatory and payer-related audits.
Develop, document and enforce accounting policies and internal controls.
Partner with brokers, actuaries and auditors on insurance renewals, exposure reporting, claims activity and risk-management initiatives.
Support acquisitions, including due diligence, purchase accounting, opening balance sheets, valuation coordination and post-acquisition integration.
Work closely with billing and revenue-cycle teams to ensure accurate healthcare reimbursement accounting.
Communicate effectively with the CFO, executive leadership, private-equity partners, auditors and operational leaders.

Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
Three to five years of recent Controller experience, preferably with a healthcare organization of comparable size and complexity.
Strong healthcare accounting experience, including revenue recognition and revenue-cycle accounting.
Experience with multi-entity and multi-state operations.
Experience leading a lean accounting team.
Demonstrated success improving the close process and introducing automation into the accounting function.
Experience preparing or reviewing IBNR and other insurance-related accruals.
NetSuite implementation or major optimization experience.
Experience working in a private-equity-backed organization or directly with private-equity ownership.
Strong command of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606, ASC 842, business combinations and consolidations.
Experience managing external audits and maintaining an audit-ready accounting function.
Advanced Excel and financial-analysis skills.
Strong judgment, communication skills and the ability to remain effective in a demanding environment.

Strongly Preferred
Active CPA license.
Three to five years of public-accounting or external-audit experience, ideally with a Big Four or national firm.
EMS, ambulance, hospital, physician-practice or other provider-side healthcare experience.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Power BI or similar reporting tools.
Experience supporting acquisitions and post-acquisition integrations.
