Description
The Control Systems Software Engineer develops, implements, commissions, and supports Beckhoff PLC/HMI software and control systems for custom robotic automation solutions.
This position requires 10-30% travel, including occasional domestic and international travel. Schedule flexibility is required to meet internal and external customer demands and to provide after-hours support when needed.
This position is based in Kansas City, MO and requires onsite attendance five days per week. To be considered, candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Kansas City. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Develop software, commission projects, and support custom Beckhoff PLC/HMI programs for robotic automation and the associated ancillary equipment.
Troubleshoot hardware issues (Industrial PCs, I/O Systems, and Communication Networks) and control system wiring issues.
Collaborate with sales, mechanical design engineers, and line engineers on project concepting.
Complete projects with accuracy in a timely manner.
Communicate and exchange information with our parent/sister companies regarding machine controls and programming matters.
Work with customers, third-party integrators, and suppliers to develop interfaces for integrated line control solutions.
Learn and use Multivac software development tools (e.g., Mercurial, CodeSmith, and SE Workbench).
Provide explanations on sequencing and other program questions when required.
Travel as required to assist Field Service Technicians with machine commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing training on control systems and new technologies.
Support the Technical Training Team in achieving training and continuing education objectives for Field Service Technicians.
Stay up to date on current technology and procedures, through training, college classes and literature.
Learn and use SAP transactions necessary for proper documentation, purchasing, and efficient workflow.
Review customer specifications and write exceptions reports when required.
Create knowledgebase articles as needed.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related fieldand two years related experience in control system design and programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in MS Office, including ability to create formulas and basic macros in Excel. Working knowledge of design software and project management software also required. Must have high level programming language (e.g., C/C++, Visual Basic, Structured Text) experience.
Certificates and Licenses: Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.
