Performs difficult skilled, highly technical and responsible work in maintaining safety, security and the access control of personnel, juveniles and visitors within a secure detention facility, by performing the following duties.

Schedule: 1st Shift Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Controls all movement in the facility i.e. detainees. staff and visitors.
  • Controls and monitors access to entire facility and surrounding exterior.
  • Monitors all access systems, 32-48 cameras and related equipment.
  • Maintains, control and operates intercom system.
  • Monitors and controls all alarms, such as fire, staff assistance needed, etc.
  • Maintains and issues temporary access cards and keys.
  • Maintains and issues radios to staff for on and off site communication.
  • Generates reports and logs for security/access control as required.
  • Monitors fire drills/emergency evacuation for compliance with existing plans and procedures.
  • Answers telephone after hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Conducts ongoing training for all staff in the network system.
  • Conducts ongoing routine testing of the network system.
  • Performs data input/access printouts.
  • Writes, implements, evaluates and updates security/access control procedures on ongoing basis.
  • Maintains security/access control administrative files.
  • Cross trains with Youth Care Workers.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
  • Performs weekly/monthly system back-up.
  • Performs general maintenance and cleanliness of control room, including cleaning monitors, cameras and counter tops, and sweeping floors and bathroom.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED and two years related experience in a secured facility.

Additional Requirements

Prior to employment must have Criminal Record Check and reference checks and Child Protective Services check initiated. Prior to onset of employment must have tuberculin and drug screen as part of physical examination.

Must successfully complete IS 100 and IS 700 National Incident Management (NIMS) within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher level of NIMS training as determined appropriate for this position.
