Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support our Documentation Recovery initiative. This is a 12-month contract position with the potential for extension. The role is fully onsite in Spartanburg, SC, with light travel to County offices and facilities throughout Spartanburg County. Candidates must be South Carolina residents or willing to relocate at their own expense.
Responsibilities
- Create, standardize, and organize technical documentation using County templates and conventions.
- Develop SOPs, operational procedures, system documentation, and knowledge-base articles.
- Maintain incident-response, disaster-recovery, and business-continuity documentation.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, usable documentation.
- Create diagrams and process maps using Microsoft Visio.
- Use Microsoft 365 tools extensively for collaboration and document management.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and IT experts to finalize documentation.
- Establish reusable templates and documentation lifecycle practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, IT, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5 years of technical-writing experience in IT or technology environments.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Word and SharePoint.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Visio for creating technical diagrams and visuals.
- Experience producing SOPs, runbooks, and system documentation.
- Excellent editing, information-architecture, and document-organization skills.
- Ability to work directly with technical SMEs across various IT disciplines.
Preferences
- Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) or ITIL Foundation certification.
- Experience in cybersecurity, infrastructure, incident response, or IT service management.
- Experience with documentation recovery or large-scale documentation-standardization initiatives.
- Familiarity with ITIL, NIST, CIS, or other recognized IT/security frameworks.
- Experience in government or other highly regulated environments.
