About the Opportunity

A well-established and highly regarded litigation firm is seeking an experienced Contract Attorney with an active California law license and deep expertise in complex business litigation and federal court practice.

This confidential opportunity offers substantive, high-level responsibility from day one. Working closely on-site with lead partners and co-counsel, you will play a key role in managing high-stakes commercial disputes, conducting complex legal analysis, and driving document-intensive discovery and motion practice in California state and federal courts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Federal & State Motion Practice: Draft and review sophisticated litigation filings, including dispositive motions (Motions to Dismiss, Summary Judgment), oppositions, replies, briefs, and supporting documentation under California civil procedure and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP).

  • Complex Discovery Management: Lead all phases of document-intensive discovery—drafting and responding to written discovery requests, managing e-discovery, reviewing evidence, and handling discovery disputes/motions to compel.

  • Legal Research & Strategy: Perform detailed, multi-jurisdictional legal analysis to assist co-counsel in building case strategy for high-stakes business disputes.

  • Proceedings Support: Collaborate directly with trial counsel to prepare for California state and federal court hearings, depositions, and trial proceedings.

  • Independent Execution: Autonomously manage complex legal assignments while adhering strictly to demanding litigation deadlines.

  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively alongside attorneys, co-counsel, and litigation support professionals to execute strategy.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • California Licensure: Active license to practice law in California and in good standing with the State Bar of California (J.D. required).

  • Litigation Expertise: Substantial background handling complex business and civil litigation matters at a business litigation boutique, Am Law firm, or top regional practice.

  • Federal Court Experience: Direct, hands-on experience in federal court litigation (U.S. District Courts), including familiarity with FRCP, local federal court rules, and ECF procedures.

  • Core Competencies: Proven track record taking full ownership of complex discovery, document-intensive cases, and high-level motion practice. Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills are mandatory.

  • Immediate Impact: Ability to step into an active federal commercial litigation matter and contribute immediately with minimal oversight.

  • Organizational Skills: Excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills.
