    General Statement of Job

    The CATA Trainer - Occupational Safety provides classroom, laboratory, and/or hands-on instruction in occupational safety and health programs for workforce, industry, and community participants. Instruction may include OSHA Outreach Training (General Industry and Construction), First Aid/CPR/AED, NCCER Core, Hazardous Response, Fire Safety, and other industry-recognized safety training programs based on the instructor's certifications and qualifications.

    The trainer delivers engaging, high-quality instruction that promotes workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and successful completion of applicable industry credentials.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    • Delivers classroom, laboratory, and/or hands-on instruction in assigned occupational safety courses.
    • Provides instruction in one or more safety disciplines, as assigned, based on the instructor's current certifications, qualifications and demonstrated competencies, which may include but are not limited to: OSHA-10 Hour and 30-Hour (General Industry and/or Construction), First Aid/CPS/AED, NCCER Core, Hazardous Response, Fire Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Personal protective Equipment (PPE), other occupational safety and health training programs.
    • Creates a safe, professional, and productive learning environment.
    • Demonstrates proper use of safety equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment.
    • Evaluates participant performance through written assessments, practical demonstrations, and skills evaluations.
    • Maintains accurate attendance, training records, testing documentation, and course completion records.
    • Completes and submits all required course documentation by established deadlines.
    • Ensures compliance with South Texas College policies and applicable OSHA, NCCER, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, HSI, or other credentialing agency requirements.
    • Reports participant attendance issues, academic concerns, safety concerns, or behavioral issues to the assigned CATA Specialist/Coordinator.
    • Maintains instructional equipment, training materials, and classroom/laboratory areas in a safe and organized condition.
    • Assists in preparing instructional materials, equipment, and supplies prior to the start of training.
    • Maintain professional communication with students, employers, staff, and industry partners.
    • Participates in instructor development and maintains all required certifications.
    • Travels to instructional sites within the College district as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
    • One (1) year of experience delivering occupational safety training or related industry experience preferred.
    • Experience teaching adult learners is preferred.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
    • Ability to effectively teach adult learners.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
