GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Consumer Lending Officer is responsible for originating, processing, and servicing consumer loans from initial inquiry through funding and post-closing, ensuring accurate, efficient, and member-focused lending experience. This role conducts consultative loan interviews, analyzes credit and financial information, prepares and reviews loan documentation, clears loan conditions, and coordinates closings to ensure loans are completed in a timely and compliant manner. The Consumer Lending Officer is expected to achieve established loan volume, product penetration, and quality standards while maintaining strict adherence to lending regulations, internal policies, and the Quality Assurance matrix. Additionally, this role proactively identifies member lending needs, promotes appropriate consumer loan products and protection options, and maintains a strong pipeline of loan opportunities to support overall lending objectives. The Consumer Lending Officer is also responsible for assisting members and potential members with their financial needs by opening new accounts, processing account transactions, and providing tailored information regarding products and services.
JOB SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Handle inbound and outbound consumer loan origination calls, ensuring a smooth and efficient loan application process.
- Assist members and potential members with their financial needs, providing personalized recommendations for products and services, including loans and credit options.
- Utilize consultative sales techniques during loan interviews to identify and cross-selling products and services that meet members' financial needs.
- Provide support via phone, fax, and email, ensuring superior service and timely responses to inquiries.
- Analyze credit reports, debt-to-income ratios, loan-to-value ratios, and other financial metrics to make informed lending decisions.
- Prepare and process all required loan documentation for approved consumer, credit card, and recreational loan applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with credit union policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with members to obtain necessary documentation, prepare closing documents, and ensure all closed loans are accurately completed and signed.
- Clear loan conditions, post loans, and process credit card advances as required.
- Maintain a pipeline of active loan approvals and meet turnaround time standards for funding.
- Perform post-closing audits and maintain the application system with loan status updates.
- Conduct daily follow-up calls, telemarketing, and communicate loan decisions to members.
- Meet or exceed monthly sales goals for products such as credit life, disability, GAP, mechanical breakdown, mortgage, and home equity referrals.
- Achieve established loan volume and product participation goals by proactively generating loan opportunities, promoting relevant lending products, and tracking performance against targets to support overall department objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all credit union policies and procedures, particularly those related to anti-money laundering and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of regulations including the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, Fair Lending, and the Credit Card Act.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance matrix, standards, and guidelines by maintaining required accuracy levels across all member interactions and promptly addressing findings or corrective actions to support consistent, compliant, and high-quality service while meeting or exceeding QA benchmarks.
- Complete required training courses, including BSA and OFAC, at least annually to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, internal partners, and team members in a collaborative environment.
- Serve as a mentor to newly hired employees, assisting with training needs and providing guidance as needed.
- The employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned by management to meet the ongoing needs of Tropical Financial Credit Union.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma required. College degree or college courses in a related field are highly preferred.
- Minimum one year customer service experience in professional services environment required.
- Minimum of two years consumer lending processing experience or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year Credit Union/financial services experience required.
- Knowledge of credit reports, credit scoring, title documents, vehicle valuations, appraisals and auto insurance, payment protection, GAP, and MBP products.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with members or employees of the organization.
- Comprehensive understanding of loan contracts including APR, amortization schedules, simple interest calculations and ability to analyze financial data.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic arithmetic.
- Understanding of underwriting guidelines.

- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of members, non-members and employees including Management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows Outlook, Word and Excel. You must type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
