The Consulting Financial Analyst owns repeatable datasets, controls, and reporting that support a high-volume, multi-entity billing environment and the annual budget cycle. The role’s primary focus is building and maintaining controlled data transformations (Power Query), automated reporting (Power BI), and validation controls that reduce manual Excel effort while improving accuracy and auditability. The role supports monthly billing execution by delivering billing-ready datasets, tie-outs, and exception outputs. During budget season, the role serves as a budget system super user and owns defined budget deliverables by workstream, executed to the published due-date timeline.
Major Responsibilities:
- Automation leadership: own the roadmap to reduce manual Excel processes; prioritize opportunities, design future-state workflows, and deliver measurable reductions in cycle time and error rates.
- Budget timeline ownership: manage and execute assigned budget deliverables by workstream (“Key Dates” high-level tasks) and ensure completion by defined due dates; maintain status reporting, dependencies, and documented outputs.
- Data pipeline ownership: build and maintain scalable Power Query transformations (and SQL where available) to ingest, clean, normalize, and refresh billing, budget, and allocation datasets from source files/systems.
- Data modeling: design governed datasets and data definitions; implement data dictionaries, lineage, and refresh schedules to enable consistent reporting across teams.
- Power BI ownership: develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting packs; where needed, create semantic models and DAX measures to support driver-based analyses and drilldowns.
- Controls and auditability: implement reconciliation rules, variance thresholds, duplicate detection, and entity mapping validation; produce exception outputs, maintain an auditable change log, and support audit requests.
- Billing-ready datasets: produce validated billing-ready datasets and tie-outs (billed vs expected), manage an exception queue, and partner with stakeholders to resolve root causes of issues affecting billing accuracy.
- Budget System Super User (Budget season): manage security/access requests; coordinate and perform user acceptance testing (UAT) for system changes; validate outputs, document test evidence/sign-offs, and partner with IT system owners to troubleshoot and resolve defects.
- Budget calendar and directive package: own creation/maintenance of the budget calendar and preparation of budget directive files/packages per the annual timeline; ensure deliverables are complete and stored in the designated repository.
- Metrics and driver file ownership: collect/receive system allocation metrics and corporate/system driver datasets; roll forward metric/driver files for prior-year comparisons; validate completeness, reasonableness, and trend breaks.
- Labor allocation datasets: extract/refresh Clarity-based labor allocation datasets; build and validate base labor files; implement repeatable refresh logic and controls; publish datasets for review/approval.
- Custom clinical rate support (as applicable): prepare and complete custom clinical rate calculations for the future year based on prior-year budget inputs and documented methodology; maintain calculation logic and validation checks.
- Budget analysis outputs: produce year-over-year (YOY) increase/decrease analyses and rollups with driver narratives; maintain repeatable templates and automated refresh logic for budget reporting.
- Cross-functional enablement: translate business rules into data requirements; document logic and processes; support adoption of new reporting/automation with clear guidance and training artifacts when needed.

Building on the foundation provided by our Mission & Values, HCA puts patients first and works to constantly improve the care we give them by implementing measures that support our caregivers, help ensure patient safety and provide the highest possible quality. Investing in our communities is important to us. HCA typically invests about $1.5 billion annually to keep our facilities modern and up-to-date technologically and to expand and add services where needed.
