The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Construction Management Specialist to join the Maintenance Contract section of their Water, Sewer & Streets Bureau. The Construction Management Specialist will manage multiple construction, renewal, and maintenance projects with a primary focus on street paving, concrete sidewalk replacement, and curb and gutter replacement. Responsibilities include contract administration, construction oversight, and field inspections to ensure projects meet plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
The position will manage approximately half of the County's $10 million annual paving program, supporting the maintenance of the County's 1,055-lane-mile public street system. This position may be assigned to one or more of the following sections, with responsibility for projects ranging from approximately $25,000 to $5 million, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water infrastructure improvements. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Employee is required to learn and follow all safety rules and regulations pertaining to job functions which include attending all required safety classes and meetings in order to ensure a safe working environment and to ensure team members are practicing the required safety rules and regulations.
The employee may be required to wear common protective gear or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, or hard hats while working outdoors.
Trainee Level: If an employee is hired at the trainee level, a training period will be established to last no longer than the equivalent of 18 months. At or before the end of the training period, the employee must meet experience, training, and proficiency requirements for the Level I position. Once the candidate qualifies, they will be appointed to the position.
Additional Information:
Work Hours: Core work hours are generally 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. However, employees are subject to occasional shift rotation, based on department needs. Employees must be available to work after hours and for call-back for emergency situations (e.g. snow removal, sanitary sewer overflows, etc).
