Overview:

Looking for a career that keeps you active and out in the field? We are hiring a Construction Field Technician for our Geotechnical team in the Lehigh Valley area, based out of our Allentown, PA office. This position is fully field-based and offers the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience.


You will receive entry-level training in construction observation and testing while working with soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, utilities, and retaining wall construction. From performing field tests and reading site plans to documenting results and communicating with project teams, you will play an important role in helping projects meet quality and safety standards.


This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, learning technical skills, and being part of the construction process from the ground up! No previous industry experience is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform field testing procedures accurately and in accordance with standards and specifications.
  • Complete daily reports and testing documents completely and timely.
  • Transport, handle, and maintain equipment and supplies responsibly and effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently with supervision.
  • Comply with internal and client Health & Safety and testing policies, if applicable.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and overtime based on project needs; overnight travel may occasionally be required with this position.
  • Test concrete for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and fabricate concrete cylinders.
  • Test engineered fill using field density methods or be familiar with Construction Material Testing.
  • Test bearing materials and observe/document ground improvement programs for compliance in accordance with the project-specific geotechnical report.
  • Perform soil moisture-density tests and oversized aggregate corrections.
  • Accurately interpret civil engineering site drawings and structural details, or be familiar with Geotechnical Engineering.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma/equivalent; Associate's degree in an engineering and science-related field (preferred, not required).
  • 0+ years of related experience.
  • Construction Material Testing: Achieve ACI, Asphalt (State-specific), and Nuclear Density Gauge certification; OSHA 10 required and OSHA 40 if applicable.
  • Geotechnical Engineering: OSHA 10 required and OSHA 40 if applicable.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate general computer skills, knowledge, and acumen (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to learn and apply technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications and knowledge of industry practices and materials for construction.
  • Ability to use technology such as a laptop, tablet & smartphone.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and overall workload.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work as part of a team (i.e., collaborate, contribute, respect others).
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
