Description

Equipment and Fleet Operations Lead, Houston

Blazey Construction Services | Houston, TX | Full time | $70,000 to $80,000 per year

You know heavy equipment, and you know the difference between a machine that's down and a crew that's waiting on it. This isn't a desk job. You'll be out on active jobsites across the Houston area, working with foremen and superintendents, dealers, and service shops to keep equipment and fleet running. It's also a chance to grow into a bigger fleet leadership role as the company expands.

Blazey Construction Services is a Texas contractor doing utility construction (wet and dry utilities), civil construction, roadway construction and rehabilitation in asphalt and concrete, and pavement sub-grade work. We're hiring an Equipment and Fleet Operations Lead to be the field-facing voice of the Equipment Department in Texas, reporting to the Director of Fleet and Facilities.

What you'll do

  • Represent the Equipment Department in the field across the greater Houston area.
  • Visit active jobsites regularly to meet with foremen and superintendents and understand their equipment and vehicle needs, service issues, rentals, and utilization.
  • Build strong relationships with field leadership, as the link between Texas operations and the wider Equipment team.
  • Size up equipment and fleet problems and coordinate the right response: service, repair, rental, replacement recommendations, or escalation.
  • Coordinate service and repairs with internal teams, dealers, rental companies, and third-party vendors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local equipment dealers, vehicle service providers, and rental companies.
  • Follow up on open issues and vendor commitments so nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Spot underused assets, unnecessary rentals, and recurring problems, and find ways to control costs and improve fleet performance.
  • Help coordinate equipment moves, rentals, service schedules, and inspections.
  • Keep the Director of Fleet and Facilities and the Equipment team informed on field conditions and emerging needs.
  • Keep accurate records of equipment and fleet activity, repairs, vendors, and follow-ups.
  • Make day-to-day coordination calls within guidelines, and escalate larger financial, operational, or asset decisions.
  • Help shape the equipment and fleet processes and systems as the company grows.

What you bring

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in heavy equipment, construction, fleet operations, equipment rental, dealership operations, field service, or a related area (preferred).
  • Experience coordinating equipment or vehicle service, repairs, vendors, or field operations (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of heavy construction equipment and/or fleet operations, and the ability to recognize common service and operational issues.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with field crews, vendors, and leadership.
  • Strong organization and follow-through, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving field environment.
  • Sound judgment on when to act, when to gather more information, and when to escalate.
  • Comfort working independently while staying closely aligned with the team.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field and travel around the greater Houston area.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (required).
