Job Description

Enforce the laws, rules and orders relating to natural resources and environmental protection. Check licenses, permits and species of fish and wildlife. Investigate complaints, issue citations and make arrest for natural resource and criminal violations. Contact prosecutors and judges, serve warrants, appear and testify in court. Complete and submit reports. Maintain records and files. Respond to public inquires. Operate and maintain snowmobiles, boats, ATV and patrol vehicle in working condition. Attend meetings, take part in programs. Ensure availability of recreation classes in a given area. Provide assistance other law enforcement agencies and divisions. Enforce numerous statutes and regulations that relate directly to the public safety.

This position is MCOLES certified and required to carry a firearm. The position needs to be in the DART, gun carrying designation.

To be eligible for hire and to participate in the conservation officer training academy, a candidate must be able to qualify for one of the following:

1) Current MCOLES license and current employment with a Michigan law enforcement

agency, or

2) Current MCOLES license eligibility by having successfully completed an MCOLES

approved basic law enforcement training academy, or

3) Obtain MCOLES eligibility through completion of the MCOLES Recognition of Prior

Training and Experience Program (RPTE). This process is available to certified and

experienced law enforcement officers from another state or Michigan law enforcement

  • Become a resident of the State of Michigan by the completion of the Probationary Training Program (PTP).
  • Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and the ability to obtain a valid Michigan drivers license.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
