    Description

    Application deadline: Oct 7, 2026

Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones. AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated Availability Zones connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. The connectivity and fiber materials that go into those connections decide how fast and how reliably we build. Would you like to join the team that sources and qualifies the materials behind that low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant network?

Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated, technically savvy Material Supply Chain Manager to develop and scale the connectivity and fiber material supply behind one of the world"s largest and most complex networks. You own the strategy for a material category as a business, and you carry the commercial and technical relationship with the suppliers in that category. You define the sourcing strategy, lead the negotiations, and secure the supply we need to hit tight build schedules across regions.

You work in a space where the business problem, the domain strategy, and the technical solution are often undefined, and you bring clarity and deliver independently. You lead the commercial engagements that drive the strategy, including originating and negotiating new contract structures with suppliers rather than executing terms someone else set. You partner with legal and finance to define the financial and legal guardrails for a deal, then assess contract terms against those guardrails on your own judgment. You shape the roadmap for next generation fiber and connectors, and you qualify those materials with engineering so we build faster and at lower cost.

Your scope reaches across orgs and geographies. You influence the vendors, legal, finance, design engineering, and program teams who own infrastructure delivery, and you drive strategic decisions that affect build plans in multiple regions. You translate deployment demand into a supply plan, remove single source risks, and bring new suppliers online to protect our schedules and cost targets. You write the narratives that carry these decisions, and you present them to senior managers and directors.

You will be part of a creative, efficient team tasked with tackling the most interesting and challenging problems in connectivity and fiber materials. Our networks lead the industry in capacity and cost effectiveness, and the materials strategy behind them keeps that lead. You will stay at the forefront of the material development industry and deliver the most innovative material solutions to our programs.

You will succeed in this role if you enjoy owning a category end to end, moving between a supplier negotiation and a technical qualification review in the same day, and making decisions with incomplete data under real schedule pressure. You set the strategy, then drive it to results. This role requires travel of 25 - 50%

    Key job responsibilities

You own the supply chain strategy for a defined connectivity and fiber material category and carry the commercial relationship with the suppliers in that category. You build the demand forecast and supply plan that keeps programs on schedule, translating deployment demand into a clear view of what materials we need, when, and in what volume across regions. You define the strategy and execute it, usually within broader guidance. You originate and negotiate new contract structures, pricing, capacity commitments, and supply terms, then manage supplier performance against those terms. You partner with legal and finance to set acceptable financial and legal guardrails, and you assess contract terms against those guardrails independently. You lead the qualification of new suppliers and new materials with engineering. You identify supply risks early, build mitigation plans, and report category health to senior managers and directors through clear narratives and metrics. You drive cost reduction and dual sourcing initiatives that improve resilience across the network, and you mentor others on the team.

    About the team

Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development - Fiber Deployment plans, manages, and delivers the physical fiber network that connects AWS data centers. The high-volume metro team delivers the fiber that brings new AWS capacity online across our busiest metro markets. You will work alongside construction vendors, engineers, and the internal customers who depend on that capacity, building large-scale fiber networks on time and to a high quality bar. Our focus for the coming years is scaling delivery without losing that quality, and this role is central to it. New teammates reach independent project ownership quickly, supported by runbooks and mentorship.

Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
