Off Leash K9 Training | Connecticut
Are you looking for a career opportunity, not just another job?
Do you love working with dogs? Are you passionate about helping people build stronger relationships with their pets? Are you motivated, dependable, and ready to turn your passion into a rewarding opportunity?
Off Leash K9 Training, one of the fastest-growing dog training companies in the country, is looking to expand our team throughout Connecticut, including Stamford, Hartford, Newington, Middletown, and surrounding areas!
We are seeking dedicated, self-motivated individuals who are passionate about dogs, committed to providing exceptional customer service, and eager to grow professionally.
Previous dog training experience is a plus, but we are also interested in individuals who are enthusiastic about learning and developing their skills through our hands-on training program.
Our trainers primarily work with clients through two services:
Board & Train Programs: Dogs stay in the trainer's home for approximately 1–3 weeks while receiving structured obedience training, real-world exposure, and individualized care.
Private Lessons: One-on-one training sessions held in public locations, where trainers work directly with dogs and their owners to develop obedience, confidence, and better communication.
This is an independent contractor opportunity that offers flexibility, the ability to work from home, and the chance to build a rewarding career doing something you love.
Must reside in Connecticut, preferably in or around Stamford, Hartford, Newington, Middletown, or surrounding communities.
Must be able to safely accommodate approximately 1–3 client dogs in your home, with appropriate space for individual crating and management.
Must have reliable transportation and be comfortable transporting dogs to training locations.
Must have a smartphone and basic computer skills.
Must be comfortable taking photos, recording training videos, and communicating through platforms such as WhatsApp.
Must be available for weekday and weekend responsibilities, including the daily care of Board & Train dogs.
Must have excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Must be comfortable working with dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments.
Must be willing to learn and utilize our balanced training methods, including proper e-collar training techniques.
Must be available to complete a required one-week, in-person onboarding program in Albany, NY.
As a professional dog trainer, you will be responsible for:
Providing structured obedience training, including recall, leash manners, heel, sit, down, place, impulse control, and real-world distractions.
Caring for Board & Train dogs in your home, including feeding, exercise, rest, health monitoring, and safe management.
Conducting training outings in appropriate public environments.
Providing daily client updates, including photos, videos, and progress reports.
Maintaining accurate training documentation, including required inspection videos, weight records, and training progress.
Conducting private lessons and teaching owners how to maintain their dog's training.
Completing Board & Train turnover sessions and applicable client follow-ups.
Communicating professionally with clients and our administrative team.
Participating in community events and promotional opportunities when available.
Continuing to develop your skills through ongoing education and trainer mentorship.
This position requires more than a love for dogs. Our clients are trusting us with members of their families, and we expect every trainer to prioritize safety, professionalism, communication, and the overall well-being of every dog in their care.
We believe in providing our trainers with the tools, education, and support they need to succeed.
All new trainers are required to complete:
One week of hands-on onboarding in Albany, NY, working directly with our head trainer.
Training in our obedience methods, equipment, dog handling, safety protocols, and client communication standards.
Consecutive follow-up training sessions with an experienced local trainer in Connecticut for continued hands-on experience, mentorship, and guidance.
Ongoing professional development and support as you build your training skills and client base.
Whether you have previous training experience or are entering the profession, you must be open to learning and following the Off Leash K9 Training system.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position with compensation based on completed training programs.
Your earning potential depends on your availability, client volume, and the number of programs you complete.
This opportunity offers a flexible schedule, the ability to work primarily from your own home, and the support of an established dog training company.
Independent contractors are responsible for their own applicable taxes and do not receive traditional employee benefits.
We are looking for someone who is:
Passionate about dogs and helping people.
Reliable, honest, organized, and self-motivated.
Patient, confident, and comfortable handling different canine personalities.
An excellent communicator who values customer service.
Responsible and capable of independently managing their schedule.
Comfortable creating training videos and documenting progress.
Willing to continuously learn, improve, and accept feedback.
Committed to maintaining high standards of animal care, safety, and professionalism.
If you're ready to turn your passion for dogs into a fulfilling professional opportunity, we'd love to hear from you!
