    Job Title: Student Laboratory and Program Assistant

    Department: Congdon School of Health Sciences-Willed Body Program

    Supervisor: Stan Stone (Director) and Michael Bryant (Human Cadaveric Laboratory Manager)

    Starting Rate of Pay: $10.00.

    Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

    The Congdon School of Health Sciences (CSHS) Willed Body Program provides its students, faculty, and staff unique opportunities to study human anatomy by preparing and maintaining deceased human donors through its donation program. The WBP oversees the acquisition of donors, preparation, use, maintenance, and final disposition of Silent Teachers, and daily use of the CSHS gross anatomy, clinical skills, care center, and anatomical specimen laboratories.

    Job Description

    The laboratory and program assistant will support the Director of the Willed Body Program and Human Cadaveric Laboratory Manager with the daily operations and maintenance of the program and corresponding laboratories. Student employees will receive training in best-practice operating procedures related to administrative duties, laboratory use, and the care of human anatomical specimens. As a student employee, you will gain experience in managerial operations, anatomical education, and laboratory management while enhancing your critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.

    Job Location/ Hours Required

    The laboratory and program assistant will perform the required job duties in the CSHS Willed Body Program office and anatomy laboratories subject to the needed projects. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements and student availability; however, a student employee typically works five to six hours per week.

    Responsibilities:

    • Administrative and clerical duties for the Willed Body Program.
    • Set up and break down teaching, research, donor preparation, and anatomy experiences.
    • Assist with inventorying all plastic, plastinated, and human anatomical specimens.
    • Ensure all laboratories are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
    • Physically moving donors from storage facilities or laboratories for experiences or final disposition.
    • Cleaning and preparing human osteological specimens for future studies.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Organizational skills
    • Oriented to being a team player
    • Critical thinking skills
    • Admitted Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
    • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA. 
    • Knowledgeable in the use of Word and Excel 

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience working in a laboratory is preferred but not necessary.
    • Able to work five hours a week with a flexible schedule.
    • Possess a desire to pursue a career in Health Sciences.
