Position Summary UtilityInnovation Group (UIG) is seeking a CAD Technician to support the design and development of electrical drawings and 3D models for distributed energy solutions. Working closely with the Systems Engineering team, the CAD Technician transforms system requirements into accurate, efficient, and constructable design packages. Projects may include control systems, PLCs, SCADA, protective relays, battery storage, generators, and networking infrastructure. This role also involves upholding UIG drafting standards and contributing to design consistency across engineering efforts. Proficiency in industrial automation design tools is essential. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with the design team to review specifications and reference similar past projects Create detailed electrical drawings, panel layouts, and bills of materials (BoM) for internal use and customer delivery Update and maintain electrical drawing sets; communicate changes clearly to engineering teams Identify long lead time components and ensure timely documentation release to prevent delays Conduct quality reviews of drawing packages before submission Support internal teams by providing technical documentation and resolving design questions Translate sketches, verbal instructions, and technical data into clear engineering drawings Strive for continuous improvement in design accuracy, efficiency, and documentation quality Communicate effectively with engineers, drafters, and manufacturing staff Demonstrate pride in craftsmanship, organization, and attention to detail Track project timelines, flagging potential risks or delays to maintain engineering schedules Take ownership of design elements across assigned programs and support efforts through completion Required Qualifications Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (minimum NFQ Level 7) or related technical field At least 2 years of experience in engineering, design, or manufacturing environments Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills Willingness and ability to collaborate across disciplines and with multiple levels of the organization Availability to travel nationally and internationally is a strong advantage Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Skilled in 2D and 3D CAD software: ePlan Electric P8/Pro Panel, AutoCAD Electrical, and AutoCAD Inventor Strong understanding of drafting standards, symbols, and terminology used in electrical/mechanical drawings Occasional need to inspect in-process work and work around electrical or industrial equipment Manual dexterity for operating digital tools, computers, and machine controllers Benefits Competitive salary with pension, performance bonus, and health insurance contributions Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options Regular performance and professional development reviews Opportunities for international career growth Work Environment Primarily an office-based role, with occasional visits to R&D facilities, manufacturing sites, and job locations as needed Apply for this Position Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician Position First Name Last Name Your email address Attach your CV/Resume (.pdf) Please tell us about yourself Leave this field blank Submit
