Job Description

Job Title: Compound Manager
Location: Cambridge, MA – 2–3 days onsite
Pay Rate: $48/hr
Duration: 6 months with possible extension

  • Manage registration, receipt, storage, distribution, inventory control, and quality oversight of chemical compounds supporting discovery research.
  • Register newly synthesized and externally sourced compounds in electronic compound databases using established nomenclature and registration standards.
  • Maintain compound metadata including chemical structure, molecular weight, purity, salt form, inventory location, and sample history.
  • Reconcile physical compound inventories against electronic records and investigate discrepancies.
  • Coordinate domestic and international compound shipments and transfers in accordance with applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and training materials for compound management workflows.
  • Investigate deviations related to inventory, labeling, shipping, and database records and implement corrective actions.
  • Support CRO and vendor operations involving compound synthesis, purification, analytical testing, storage, and logistics.
  • Partner with Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, DMPK, Analytical Sciences, Informatics, and external CROs to support discovery programs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • M.S. in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline preferred.

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in compound management, medicinal chemistry support, pharmaceutical research operations, or related scientific environments.
  • Hands-on compound registration and electronic compound database management.
  • Chemical structure and nomenclature knowledge.
  • Compound handling, storage, inventory control, and laboratory safety practices.
  • Compound metadata and data integrity management.
  • Physical-to-electronic inventory reconciliation.
  • Experience with compound logistics, shipment coordination, and material transfers.
  • CRO and vendor management within pharmaceutical or discovery research environments.
  • SOP and work-instruction development for compound management processes.
  • Microsoft Excel.
  • Database and inventory-tracking applications.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory systems.

Preferred Skills

  • BIOVIA, Dotmatics, CDD Vault, ChemAxon, or equivalent compound registration platforms.
  • Python scripting for data or workflow automation.
  • Automated compound storage and retrieval systems.
  • High-throughput screening support.
  • Experience with compound synthesis, purification, analytical testing, or pharmaceutical discovery workflows.
  • Experience supporting international compound logistics and customs requirements.
