Description

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead integration of new pre-commercial or commercial technologies into the system.
  • Assess pilot projects against success criteria and determine readiness for system-wide deployment.
  • Develop, update, and maintain engineering standards to support new technologies and compliance requirements.
  • Align standards with regulatory mandates, risk mitigation, and corporate objectives.
  • Collaborate with project leads, subject matter experts, substation construction/maintenance, operations, and training teams.
  • Facilitate communication and engagement during all phases of technology transition.
  • Partner with technology integration and training teams to develop end-user training plans.
  • Update operating manuals, maintenance procedures, and compatible units before deployment.
  • Define asset ownership and responsibilities, such as infrastructure replacement sponsor and equipment maintenance.
  • Oversee SAP and master data integration for new technologies.
  • Manage standards change requests through all phases of the standards process.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure procedural compliance for technology transfer and standards updates.
  • Conduct impact assessments for new standards and technology adoption, covering operational, safety, and training implications.
  • Identify gaps and provide insights to strategy teams for roadmap updates.
Required Technical Skills:
  • Deep understanding of transmission, distribution, and substation standards; own and manage standard content and updates.
  • Familiarity with CPUC General Orders, NERC requirements, and compliance frameworks.
  • Interpret engineering principles and evaluate standards changes, such as conductor tension tables, clearance, and structural loads.
  • Working knowledge of tools like AUD/DM, SPIDA pole loading, and AutoCAD for substation standards drawing updates.
  • Lead pilot processes and facilitate technology transfer for new equipment and systems.
  • Required Strategic & Analytical Skills:
  • Align standards updates with asset strategy and planning roadmaps, organizational goals, and asset management strategies.
  • Evaluate QA/QC findings, assess operational impacts, and identify gaps for continuous improvement.

Desired Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of power systems, standards development, regulatory compliance, and engineering tools like AutoCAD, SPIDA, and AUD/DM.
  • Strong ability to lead technology pilots, manage standards updates, coordinate cross-functional teams, and influence decisions.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, cost-benefit analysis, aligning technology adoption with roadmaps, communication, and problem-solving.
