Position Summary

The Compliance Tech Analyst collaborates closely with the Compliance Pharmacist Specialist, Senior Medication Safety Specialist Pharmacist, and fellow Compliance Tech Analysts to support medication safety and regulatory compliance initiatives. This role is instrumental in promoting safe, high-quality patient care, proactively preventing diversion, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy department policies as well as organizational, regulatory, and accreditation medication management standards. The primary work location for this position is the East Valley Hospital Campus. However, the incumbent will be expected to travel to the Thomas Campus as needed for training and shift coverage.

This position is responsible for working in conjunction with the Compliance Pharmacist Specialist to support and promote safety and quality, proactively prevent diversion, and assure pharmacy department and organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation medication management standards. Reports directly to the Pharmacy Compliance Manager for hiring, termination, practice direction and annual evaluation. This position receives oversight and direction from the Compliance Pharmacist Specialist.

Position Duties

  • Actively completes the daily duties required to monitor the use of controlled and non-controlled medications to proactively prevent diversion and misuse throughout the healthcare system.
  1. Utilizes healthcare compliance analytics software and related system reports to monitor user transaction activity to proactively identify and prevent medication diversion.

  2. Assists with monitoring and analysis of scheduled and on demand diversion audits and tracking reports.

  3. Performs technical duties and actions required to appropriately identify, address, and resolve controlled substance transactions in ADC's.

  4. Serves as an expert user for compliance analytics software and integrated organizational IT systems.

  • Actively supports activities and duties to maintain regulatory compliance and continuous survey readiness for medication management under the direction of the Compliance Pharmacist Specialist.
  1. Prepares and analyzes reports.

  2. Assists in monitoring and tracking of pharmacy department and relevant organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation medication management standards.

  3. Maintains required documentation and files.

  4. Assists in development of policies, procedures, reports, and other tools to improve surveillance and monitoring of controlled substances and ensure compliance with medication management standards.

  • Actively participates in organizational compliance, regulatory and survey readiness committees.

  • Provides technical assistance and support as required for regulatory and accreditation surveys.

  1. Accesses and provides requested reports and documentation.

  2. Retrieves and provides policies and standard operating procedures as requested.

  • Actively works in conjunction with the Compliance Pharmacist Specialist to support the Pharmacy, Nursing, Quality, Risk, Office of Business Integrity (OBI), Legal, PCMG, Security, HR departments, Executive Leadership, Sr. Leadership, Medical Staff, Pharmacy Leadership, and other ad hoc groups related to medication management and business integrity to assure compliance with best practices, accreditation standards, statutes, and regulations.

  • Performs pharmacy department and organizational medication management inspections in ambulatory and inpatient care environments to assure ongoing compliance.

  • Performs in the role of a pharmacy technician when needed for patient care.

  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
