Compliance & Reporting Specialist

Empowered Staffing is partnered with a rapidly expanding national risk management insurance services firm specializing in captive insurance and reinsurance solutions. Currently, the company is seeking a detail-oriented Compliance and Reporting Specialist to oversee accurate accounting, timely reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Compliance and Reporting Specialist will review historical accounting activity, resolve discrepancies, and establish processes that support accurate, consistent reporting moving forward. You’ll also interpret accounting requirements and contractual agreements, prepare regulatory filings, and recommend improvements to financial systems and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Review prior-period accounting entries and transactions to verify accuracy and alignment with applicable reinsurance and management agreements.
• Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, document findings, and coordinate necessary corrections.
• Analyze financial results and provide clear explanations for variances between actual and expected performance.
• Prepare and maintain complete, accurate, and timely regulatory filings and supporting documentation.
• Evaluate accounting practices for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable IRS and federal requirements, and state insurance regulations.
• Support audit readiness by maintaining organized records, documenting accounting conclusions, and responding to requests for supporting information.
• Prepare financial reporting packages, trend analyses, and other analyses that help leadership understand results and identify areas for improvement
• Support general ledger and financial system improvements, including enhancements to applications, reporting tools, and analytical models.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in insurance, reinsurance, and/or captive insurance.
• 2+ years of internal or external audit experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting practices applicable to insurance and reinsurance.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal requirements, state insurance statutes, and regulatory reporting obligations.
• Demonstrated experience performing complex financial analysis, investigating discrepancies, and preparing financial reports.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, CMA, CFA, CIA, or another relevant professional designation.
• Experience implementing or transitioning to a new general ledger system.
• Experience developing, documenting, or evaluating internal controls and accounting procedures.
